BBS was founded in 1970 by Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand in Schiltach in the Black Forest. The company name is an acronym for Baumgartner Brand Schiltach.
The company celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1995, at the time when Michael Schumacher won the Formula 1 World Championship for the second time with Benetton Renault on BBS wheels. Numerous additional motorsport wins on BBS wheels followed. In addition, the retrofit market was revolutionized in this year with the two-piece RS wheel, which currently has the status of a global design classic.
